When you were born
I held you in my arms
And I knew love
Like never before
When you learned to walk
You came with arms held high
I picked you up
And I held you so tight
If I shed a tear
Every time I think of you
I could swim so far, so far away
In the stream I’d leave behind
When you were young
I watched you grow
As you shared your love
I saw your heart shine so bright
When the teenage years came
We lived like foes and fought so fast
As our different worlds
clashed with every word
If I shed a tear
Every time I think of you
I could swim so far, so far away
In the stream I’d leave behind
Now you are grown
And years have passed
There are many miles
Many miles between us
Yet I love you so
Just like years ago
When you first appeared
As a new born helpless child
If I shed a tear
Every time I think of you
I could swim so far, so far away
In the stream I’d leave behind
