The Social Security Administration (SSA) has taken steps to protect you from scams and identity theft. These changes are especially important for seniors, who are often the main targets of fraud.

I hate to report it, but I do get multiple phone calls every week form my customers who have fallen prey to despicable scammers hurting their Medicare Advantage plans or their Social Security.

Let’s look at what’s new:

🔐 Safer Online Accounts

You now need two ways to sign in (like a password and a code sent to your phone) to access your my Social Security account. This helps keep your info safe.  Don’t look at it as being a burdensome waste of time.  It is fast and easy.  As a broker I go through this same process multiple times every day, probable every working hour to be honest.

🚨 Fraud Alerts

SSA will send you alerts if anything unusual happens—like changes to your direct deposit or benefit information. You can choose to get these by text or email.

📞 New Anti-Fraud Hotline

SSA has a new phone line just for reporting scams. If you get a call or message that seems fake, you can call and ask if it’s real.  As best I can tell, the hotline is: 800-269-0271.  You can also use this link to go to the SSA website to report Fraud.  I found a link, so you don’t have to spend hours searching: https://secure.ssa.gov/oig/fraud/

🔒 SSN Lock Feature

You can now lock your Social Security number if you think it’s been stolen. This helps stop thieves from using it.

How You Can Stay Safe

  • Don’t share your Social Security number unless you’re sure who you’re talking to.
  • Watch out for calls or messages from people who say they’re from the government but ask for money or personal info.
  • Create a strong password and never share it.
  • Tell family and friends about scams so they don’t get tricked either.

I found the above information on various news outlet websites and the SSA website.  It is accurate to the best of my knowledge.  In a world of fraud, waste, and abuse, you need a good Medicare Plan Broker.  I would consider it a honor to work with you.  Call my cell at: 803-634-4993.

My intention is to help make Medicare a little easier to understand.

Federal rules prohibit me from going into detailed plan information on this site. You can always contact me to talk about your situation. Again, there are rules, but we can talk about that later. For now, just browse my blog and let me know what you think.

Thank you.
